What does a solar system cost?
Solar-only examples with REC 460W panels, the fixed system charge included, and no battery or project-specific adders. These are indicative DC capacities, not final panel layouts.

Ordinary percentage adjustments each apply to solar + panel adjustment + battery, before any general adjustments. They do not compound. Post-incentive fees such as PayKeeper use the confirmed post-incentive cash basis, require a separate quote, and are excluded from this estimator. Unknown site requirements are not treated as included.
How the estimate is calculated.
- Use the selected state base USD/W rate. Select the size tier with the highest minimum watts less than or equal to system watts; boundaries are inclusive at the minimum and exclusive at the next minimum.
- Solar = watts × (state base USD/W + size adjustment USD/W) + fixed system charge. Add watts × the selected panel USD/W adjustment.
- Battery = base count × base price + additional base count × additional base price + expansion count × expansion price. Use one of the published package compositions.
- Subtotal = solar + panel adjustment + battery. Flat adjustments apply once; per-item and per-square-foot adjustments multiply quantity; per-watt adjustments multiply system watts.
- Each ordinary percentage adjustment (unit percent) is its rate / 100 × the same subtotal before any general adjustments. Percentage adjustments do not compound and do not include other general adjustments in their basis.
- Post-incentive percentage fees (unit post_itc_percent) use the confirmed post-incentive cash basis after ordinary adjustments and representative discounts. They exclude one another, round to cents, and are added without another incentive reduction. Their rates are disclosed but these program-dependent fees require a separate quote and are excluded from this estimator.
- Total = subtotal + all applicable ordinary general adjustments. Do not round intermediate values. Round the final total to cents; individually displayed line-item rounding may differ by a cent.
What to know before comparing quotes
- USD. Installed solar pricing before incentives, program adjustments, or financing.
- System size is DC nameplate capacity in kW; 1 kW = 1,000 watts. Energy production is not estimated.
- Only the selected equipment and explicitly selected adders are priced. An unselected adder is not a finding that the property needs no additional work.
- State pricing does not confirm installation eligibility at a particular address.
- Final panel count, design, site conditions, taxes, permits, shipping, and scope must be confirmed in a property-specific quote. No separate allowance for unconfirmed costs is added here.
- No homeowner tax credit or program eligibility is assumed. This estimate is not a binding offer or a financing approval.
Are these prices before or after incentives?
All totals on this page are before incentives, program adjustments, and financing. We do not subtract a homeowner tax credit or assume eligibility. Program-specific pricing and financing require a separate quote.
Will my final quote be exactly this amount?
This is a preliminary estimate from the published rules. Your property, actual panel count, equipment, applicable adders, and final scope can change the amount. Ask for a property-specific quote to confirm the complete installation price.
Can I use these prices to compare another solar quote?
Yes. Compare the same capacity, equipment, battery storage, installation scope, and payment type, all before incentives. Include any applicable adjustments so the comparison covers the same work.
Can an AI assistant use this pricing?
Yes. The tables, calculation rules, and data downloads are available without an account. Include the state, equipment, system capacity, assumptions, pricing date, and a link to this source when quoting an estimate.
